The Gallowglass is our second offering in our line of Greatswords, or "War Swords".
This unique design of large 2 handed sword was used by Celtic and Gaelic Mercenaries, the Scottish Gallowglass (AKA Galloglaich) and Irish Kerns in the late middle ages and early Renaissance.
The iconic traits of a Gallowglass sword is the long handle and large "open ring" pommel, that exposes the tang. In addition, they also often had unusual quillon designs, that are not seen on many, if any, other swords in history.
Our example has the iconic pommel, and the 'forks' type quillons.
It is a bold and robust looking sword, but still handles with great agility.
It is 150cm, which is the length of most 2 handed war swords, including Landsknecht Schalctenschweter, until the later period complex Greatswords became widespread at around 180cm.
Length 150cm
As with all our swords, the balance and performance is designed to match historical examples, and so it is a very lively blade to wield, and feels great to use. The hilt is strong, and allows you to use historical offensive and defensive techniques, even in LARP contexts.
